When records are essentially equal (i.e. within 1 loss), they go with the conference champion. UGA is NOT the conference champion. The 5 teams ranked above them are. To be the best in your conference, you win your conference title. Simple process really.

Except for TCU last year. Oh, and Ohio State, too. So, no, that isn't how it's ever been done.
