exactly.... the player they paid him, at the time, is not the same player that Herb is today.... he's improved a pretty vast amount, offensively... that being said, like i've said earlier, he's still got a ways to go before he's in that "elite" category... defensively, he's pretty much there... but offensively, he's still got some developing to do, though he has improved drastically since entering the league
I say this as a Herb fan from Day 1, we paid Herb to be an elite, DPOY candidate, defensive wing and to be a serviceable shooter, which was more than fair. If we get that from him for half a decade that would be amazing, and would allow him to play with any lineup/roster make-up we have in the future.
What we are getting now...elite, low volume shooting across the board, locker room leader, and maybe more impressive, serviceable third option on offense playmaking/passing is just stunning. This version of Herb is not just a player you need to get defensive stops in a playoff series against a top team, but a player that could possibly swing a playoff series on both sides of the ball.
Edit: Saying I doubt he becomes "elite" offensively, but if he continues to refine what he is doing right now that is perfect for the Pelicans.

agreed, provided he's consistent on the offensive side of the ball... that's the only caveat, right now, for him... let's be honest, he still has games where he's not producing great offensive numbers... if he can consistently get between 15-17 ppg and 3-5 apg, then yeah, i'm totally on board with the above statement... but he ain't there yet
