Other than Saban, Henry, and Bertman...

which coach in recent memory has had a legitimate shot at being lured away by another program?
Watching the Bama - Florida game made me contemplate this question. How bad must you feel if you are a Notre Dame fan and you had Meyer on the hook but insulted him with a peanuts offer?
LSU needs to pay top dollar up front for a talented coach - whether its men's or women's basketball, football, baseball, track - it is in LSU's interest to pay upfront than to continually be handcuffed by a large remaining payout to the prior bargain basement find that did not work out.

Agreed. It would not surprise me at all if O'Keefe was fired for rushing to extend Miles' contract when the Michigan rumors were swirling. The irony of the whole situation is that Miles was given a raise, longer contract and larger buyout and Michigan did not once call him.

You're going to laugh, but Brady following the 2000 season was looked at by Illinois and could have been under consideration after 2006.

I'm looking forward to more basketball conversation around here. But I guess we have to wait until SEC play to really know how good we are this year. That said, I'm excited about it.

Obviously my memory is better in football than anywhere else. Further, we had Henry, Brown and Bertman for much of my adult life, so here gos:
-Arnsparger was hired away to be an AD, but returned to coaching (albeit in the NFL). Is 20 years ago recent memory?
-Shanghai and Beijing considered hiring Curley Hallman to run their fire safety and prevention division. (Curley was also considered by several organizations to help remove urine from industrial footwear. However, he was unable to accept unless it was guaranteed that detailed instructions would be printed on the underside of the footwear.)
-Dinardo was definitely considered by Notre Dame, but they hired Bob Davie, instead.
-Obviously Miles was strongly, strongly considered by Michigan after last season.

Miles had a pretty decent shot at being lured away by Michigan.

Miles had no shot at Michigan because they never called. A pretty detailed article came out that explained how Miles' agent kept calling Michigan but the calls were never returned. Essentially he wasn't on the long or short list.
Fast forward one year and we are stuck with a longer contract, higher salary, and bigger buyout much like we were with Brady after the Final 4. Call it O'Keefe's lasting legacy.
