I think LSU is 2 good recruiting years away from having a full deck to play with.

It’s not like this new staff is recruiting the defensive side at an elite level at this time. There are no excuses for us not signing elite talent the last 2 years. We did on the offensive side, so why are people still excusing the defensive side? It’s simple, we need DLman and DB’s and we’ve needed them for two cycles. We did get players who I think will develop but we need to be landing more kids each year that can challenge the guys we already have. I don’t see that right now, especially at linebacker and DL.

I don’t think it’s Kelly, I think it’s the staff that Kelly brought in on that side of the ball. They’re just not getting the job done with regards to recruiting. Cain was the only guy he had that could recruit and he’s gone. Kelly needs to do his homework or hire someone to do that homework for him and go get elite recruiters who can coach. They are out there. Have to find them and get them here.

Kelly knows offense so it isn’t a surprise to me that he was able to fix the offense as quickly as he did but now it’s time to get someone in here who could help him with the defense and House just hasn’t gotten it done. There are coaches out there who are more qualified for this position and I think would take it in a heartbeat.

Derek Mason is just one guy who I think could change the narrative around here and has a familiar face and great reputation. Phil Parker, Jim Leonard, Mike Tressel and Glenn Schumann would all be great coaches to interview and look at. What sucks is every time we start over, it sets things back a little. It could also lite a spark and help us land guys we need. Maybe they even bring some of their recruits to LSU. We sure as hell need them.
