Dude, Desantis is doing this for EXACTLY that reason.
Obviously, this is a "forced" debate. The very obvious conclusion is that they are trying to propel Newsom.
Desantis does what he's told and the campaigns objective overall was to stop Trump.

If that is what’s going on then the Reps are complete morons and are working against their own best interests. They have chosen to take one of their weakest debaters and squared him off against a polished debater. Even if DeSantis gets some good shots in they will never be seen by 99%of the population. In contrast, the “news” will play Newsome highlights for days. It’s like the Republicans want to lose to him.
