The TAM rivalry really had it's start in I think 1979 when they stole Johnny Hector from us. He was one of the top HS RB in the country and for all intents and purposes was going to LSU as he was from LA. Then at last minute he flipped to TAM. Rumor was he was paid. That started the hatred for TAM as far as I was concerned and for many others.

Change the year to 1954, the name of the high school football recruit to John David Crowe, leave the rest of your comment unchanged and a different generation of LSU fans would agree w/ you.

That was the old Southwest Conference. They paid everyone.

Rumor was, when Eric Dickerson was a senior in HS, Aggie boosters gave him a brand new, 1979 Trans Am…which he promptly got into, and drove to Dallas to sign his Letter of Intent with SMU. His reasoning: what are they gonna do, call a cop?
