Those conditions on my 455 have lead to the fuel filter before. Can you pull the back to tank line off the filter assembly and cycle the key and verify a good stream of diesel? The reason to check that is that crud collecting in the tank can block the inlet screen on the fuel pump, you should have a decent amount of flow when the key is cycled. G/L

Think he said it was a reel mower probably a 2653 or something similar. I had one do that and it was the fuel supply line from the tank to the pump and gotten pinched and couldn’t supply enough fuel under a load.
If it is a 2653 there is also a filter on the fuel pickup inside of the tank.
