What is the generally accepted birth year range for millennials?

I am seeing range of 1981–1996 where they would now be from 27 years old to 42 years old. I definitely know some that have zoomer kids that have graduated high school or even college. Some unplanned kids born before 21st century.

The range for these labels are pushing it, but baby boomers 1946 to 1964 is just dumb. Classifying a kid conceived soon after WWII ended that saw segregation end when old enough to understand including possibly in their own schools, in high school when Kennedy shot, and some part of Vietnam, draft, later 60s to early 70s as a young adult in same generation as someone who graduated high school and turned 18 under Reagan while watching MTV, ESPN, & scrambled late night cable doesn’t make sense.
