We have continued to get them so at least some people are continuing to send them.

Most people think I am a little nuts because I send a handwritten thank you for even the small gifts I receive, even Christmas gifts from close family. I even write my wife thank you notes for gifts she gives me.

Nothing wrong with that.
People def remember your kindness for taking the time to do it.
Several years ago I had a manager from another division of our company travel with me to show me some vendor shops and help introduce me to folks.
I sent him a thank you card and that old guy must have really appreciated that because he talked me up to people all the time and eventually helped me get a promotion.

Had some friends of friends come hang out with us at our Mardi Gras spot one year. The wife mailed us a thank you note. They are now welcome anytime for parades and have become friends
