That was the second time around. The lesser known and perhaps more interesting story comes from the Brits feelings about the Germans at the dawn of the 20th century.
I believe if the Brits had it to do over again, they would have liked to demolish Germany completely. But the people were done with the trench warfare bullshite. It had to stop.
But, as most people know, Germany rebounded just a couple decades later. And Hitler used his people's anger towards the English for what they had done in WW1 just as much if not more than he did with the Jews. In some of his early speeches he is just going off about Churchill.

Germany's economy, both in the roaring twenties and following Hitler's rise to power, were both a deck of cards. The roaring twenties was propped up by foreign investment and the 30s were propped up by state funding into rearmament and mass projects, but neither were sustainable. The 20's were dependent on external funding and the 30's were predicated on the ability to wage a successful war.
