How they drew countries with very little consideration of "who lived where" is a big part of 21st century instability. They have done both good and bad but their hubris in drawing those lines is their most enduring legacy.

I agree that possibly their biggest mistake in that part of the world was the way they drew borders. If they had taken a different approach they could have avoided a lot of trouble. Instead they created a lot of hatred and new enemies for themselves.
