I've been reading up on the 19th century British empire and through WW2. It seems a very mixed bag of good and bad.

I agree that possibly their biggest mistake in that part of the world was the way they drew borders. If they had taken a different approach they could have avoided a lot of trouble. Instead they created a lot of hatred and new enemies for themselves.
