Well said. The two empires that largely exported the rule of law and modernity to its holdings.

Thank the lord it was the Brits who built our modern world and not the French/Germans/Russians/Japanese/Chinese

I think the Ottoman Empire gets overlooked a lot. The vacuum that was created when they fell is what led us to a lot of the conflicts we still see in that part of the world today.
