Nice ‘09-‘10 was probably an interesting balance of the edgy old school AMS against the onslaught of gentrification that started around that time. Got here in 2014 myself…

Oud-West is fun, we almost bought our place there (as well as De Pijp) but ultimately settled on (broader) Plantagebuurt on the eastern side of the “Centrum”

Nice best of both worlds, technically in the city-center, and can walk to the central station in 15 minutes, while living in a picturesque, calm and untouristed residential part of town with a real neighborhood feel.

But alas still more of my favorite haunts (food and drink) are in Oud-West…

I spent a lot of weekends traveling after a month or two in Amsterdam.

Started with close places like Rotterdam, Antwerp Cologne, and Brussels.

Then took longer trips to Paris, Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, and Vienna.

Quick tram ride to Centraalstation then off to wherever.

It was fun exploring Europe whenever I felt like it. And cheap.

Never flew. Always the train. So easy and so much to see.
