Defense doesn't win championships anymore.
You need a top 10-ish offense PLUS a defense that can hold teams to less than 25 ppg.
The 10 best offenses in the country will consistently score 25-40ppg on the top 10 defenses in the country. If you can't do that yourself you will lose critical games often enough to miss our on titles.
With that said, I would rather lose a game 49-55 than 13-16. At least I got to watch something exciting for 3-4 hours. Defensive punt fests every game are incredibly boring, whereas having to watch every play of the game due to explosive plays on both sides keeps you engaged, excited, and angry/terrified. It's like a roller coaster.
