I ran into colo in my younger days.. sorry but if your ancestors came to La via Iowa.... you ain't cajun.

My ancestors are French, and my roots as Cajun as they come. I know a lot of German Cajuns too. My guess is these people settled in a community like Robert's Cove and quickly adopted the local culture.

I also know many Broussards and Boudreauxs who don't have a real Cajun bone in their bodies
