A/C Coil replacement/Furnace Replacement

I have a leak in my coil and need to replace the coil. When the tech inspected it and prepared my quote he told me I may want to consider replacing the furnace too since its over 25 years old. He explained the efficiency of the furnace blowing would be lower and could cause the compressor or condensor to fail because it's so old. If I want to replace the furnace it'd be best to do it at the same time as the coil replacement so they're not redoing work and cutting new lines. The costs for each are shown below.
Replace Coil only - $2800
Replace Coil and Furnace - $6500
Replace Furnace only - $5700
I would save 2k by doing both now if the furnace were to fail in the near future, but is this a likely possibility or is he just trying to upsell me?

Is the compressor also 25 years old?

Heat exchanger in furnace is warranted for 20 years, blower motor in furnace same age? Average life of a gas furnace is considered to be 25 years.
Makes sense to replace while changing out the evaporator coil it if no more than a safety issue (potential carbon monoxide leakage from a “leaking” heat exchanger), new unit will certainly be more energy efficient - I don’t think he was trying to up sell you at all, just giving you solid suggestion to consider. If the furnace was the same age as the outdoor condensing unit, 9 years, then he’d be trying to up sell you.

I would suggest you get a second quote.
How big a unit are you looking at?

This is what I thought but just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the advice

4 ton. We did and this was the cheaper one. Both quotes were similar though

Just replaced coil for 2800 here in cenla a few weeks back.
I suppose it all revolves around how accurate you feel the assessment is......I personally am not that sensitive to furnaces going out here in La, so I would probably roll the dice.
