How’s the deer hunting in Western NC?

It’s a fairly low population density since there isn’t much ag grown in the region. They have to rely on hard mast for a lot of their calories, and they have a lot of competition with all the turkeys, bears, and squirrels eating the same things. The further west you go in NC, the lower the populations are, and the deer seasons are quite conservative in many areas (no doe seasons, buck only, rifle season only runs 5 days, etc.) There’s huge parcels of puplic forest land to hunt though, which is nice. Some nice bucks come out of there too. Plenty of places for them to hide from hunters and get big.

Jay Luetze and SAHC doing work, although I'm not sure how open to hunting all their lands are.
