This is probably true. I’d advocate for ol boy doing the hard work on all of his flaws, while teaming with the wife to address hers and theirs as a couple for a long time before divorce is an option. Maybe he did that and she just wouldn’t engage, but that’s not how it comes off. Sounds like she got fat, he tried to shame her to change, that didn’t work, so he bailed.

I suspect it’s just another case of two parents too selfish to put the needs of each other and their children ahead of their own simple desires.

Agree with this from experience. Parents got divorced when I was 12. It sucked at first, but ended up better for everyone in the long run. Of course, my dad stayed active in my life. That will be the biggest thing as far as the kids go.
