We were both Journalism majors. I had a Broadcast Radio class with he and Kevin Guidry. Our prof was Bill Black (Buckskin Bill). 19 year old me thought this was totally normal.
One of my weirdest days at LSU was sitting in class, and Black was running late. He came in white as a ghost and said the space shuttle Challenger had just blown up. Caston was visibly shaken. That stuck with me and it was the first thing I thought of when I heard he had been killed in a car accident.
