Look at Keller, Grapevine, Southlake. Some parts of Grapevine are zoned to Southlake ISD so you get Southlake schools without having to pay Southlake prices. Also near a lot of highways so you can get around easily. I wouldn't go east of Dallas (Rockwall, etc. because 30 can back up bigtime and it's a PITA to get out there.

I live in Viridian and besides recommending my area these above are quite frankly the best areas central to entire metro plex.
