These guys were not soldiers. They are studying to be 2nd LT. When if they graduate. Then they join the army

They're under the UCMJ while they're at WP and once they pass sophomore year they can't leave without spending time on active duty. I understand what you're saying because they aren't commissioned and don't even have a rank but realistically they certainly aren't civilians anymore either.
