I thought the same thing until I got on ADHD meds in my early 20s. I grew up in a typical Louisiana household that believed in (appropriate) corporal punishment. I wasn't abused or traumatized, but the threat of my dad's belt definitely helped keep me in line.

As I got older, I noticed I couldn't remember things or learn new stuff as easily as I could when I was a teen. I went to a psychiatrist, asked to try some medication, and it made a world of difference. I was able to focus again. I had motivation to do things. It was like wearing glasses for the first time.

ADHD meds don't make your (not you specifically) sister gay or your son depressed. Your sister is gay because all women are a little gay, and your son is depressed because he's 12.
