The SIAA upon completion of the 1908 season conducted an investigation based on allegations from Tulane that LSU was paying its players. The investigation cleared the LSU tigers from any wrongdoing, but by the time the investigation was completed the SIAA conference schools elected Auburn as the Champion even though the Tigers were 10-0 and beat Auburn during the season.

Lots of interesting things from the 1908 team. Didn’t know that the Heisman trophy was retroed to Doc Fenton. The first modern day award was given in 1935.

The funny thing on Tulane turning in LSU, is Tulane is not a member of the SIAA and is playing a twice banned player and another player banned also.

Tulane is also playing a number of grads from places like Vanderbilt.

Looking into the teams of 1908 era, everyone is playing grads of other schools, Michigan is playing a player that played for 2 other schools and he played with Wingard at Susquehanna.

Doc and Lally played at a perp school that does not become a college until years later. That school miss ID Doc in a photograph and I had them change it and pointed out Lally in it.

Texas A&M is playing a Carlisle player who lettered the year before at Carlisle, which means he has to sit a year.

This goes on and on for every team I have looked into.

The Blacksmith's (Miss. St.) are using northern players.

The best nickname of the era is the Rats (Florida).
