not really though, because even though they do use it to refer to each other, it's still slang, and they still view it as an offensive word.
the word "queer" is used in the LGBTQ "community" (i hate calling it that) as a legitimate proper way of describing someone's sexual preference or orientation. you would not be surprised to hear a gay person say something about the struggles of "queer and transgender persons" or something like that, but you would never hear a black person say, in a serious manner, something about the struggles of "persons of color and n*****s"
but regardless, if i had a gay guy working for me, and i said "oh yeah that dude is a queer", it would be considered offensive. it makes no sense.

Gay guys in my dorm quickly recognized that I was not biased so they befriended me and taught me about gay culture. The rule on terms was simple...'gay' and 'queer' are perfectly fine. 'Homo' and '****' were not permitted at all.
This was back in the 60s so the idea that 'queer' is seen as new today is absurd.

you're the one that jumped in this thread accusing the board of "obsessing over queers". we obsess over it because it's being rammed down our throats (figuratively only, so far) daily across the entire spectrum of media, and ALSO being shoved into our kids' faces. i can ignore it if it's just me, but the constant barrage on my children is why i will always call out their bullshite.

I worked in about 10 different schools across a very blue city and never witnessed anything like that. I go to the library weekly and have never ever seen or heard a librarian approach/discuss homosexuality with a patron. And this is in a very blue city. So is it the red states that are pushing this agenda? Sounds like a witch hunt.
