My best advice, as soon as you hit the ground in NOLA go by a pawn shop and buy a simple .38 revolver, something cheap like a Rossi for both you are your GF. Together you'll have 12 rounds, be judicious in slot selection, no matter what you see in movies, a handgun is only good from inside of 10 yards (or meters in your case). Save the last round(s) for yourself(ves).
