Good to hear. That's how I imagined Shaq to be.

As a kid, I found my way to Bob Hope's dressing room when he performed at Auburn. When he came out, I asked him for an autograph. He refused. I guess he saw how disappointed I was because he asked me and my friend to walk with him to where he was to wait to be introduced. We stood there for about five minutes, told us how nervous he was, and ran several jokes by us, "to see if they were any good." So we basically got a personal five-minute show. Would have lost the autograph anyway.

That bob hope thing is a cool story .

A friend of mine went to high school in Houston , and one of his high school buddies was a lighting guy at the Summit in Houston. One day his buddy calls him and says “ the sixers are in town . Come on down and watch them practice “
So he gets to the Summit and watched them wrap up practice and then his buddy asks Dr J and Charles Barkley for a game of two on two . They agree and play to two baskets , so not a very long game .
I asked my friend if he got their autograph and his response was “ I was playing basketball with the Doctor and Sir Charles . I wasn’t worried about an autograph “
That was probably 30 years
ago and it just changed my whole perspective on autographs. Haven’t asked for an autograph from anyone since .
