Friend,

I nearly ran over a black bear in the North Cascades a few weeks ago. I was running down a trail trying to make it to the NP store before they closed. A black bear was munching on some bushes or berries just around a switchback. I turned left on the trail and was within five feet of him when he high tailed it down the mountain. He was far more scared than I was. There were a few hikers down the trail who were frozen in fear and looked at me like I was insane. I kept running.

One day I will share with you the story of how a grizzly in Montana nearly brought my story to an early end. Grizzlies are terrible and I am terrified of them. Black bears do not even cause me to pause. If a black bear ever decided to attack me I have full confidence I could defend myself. There is no confidence if a grizzly did.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

A black bear can kill a grown man with no problem.

Ask anyone who’s ever wrestled a bear at a bar. They’re strong as frick. I know 2 guys that have done it and they both said the same thing. If the bear wasn’t de-clawed and didn’t have a muzzle on, they’d be dead.

I can never really tell if TulaneLSU is doing a shtick or being serious.

no one could defend themselves against a black bear that intended to do them harm.
