The Belle Chasse-Braithwaite/Poydras ferry is still running as is the Pointe-a-la-Hache ferry.
The only time I had reservations about crossing the river on a ferry was after the Luling/Destrehan Ferry disaster in 76 when the George Prince was hit by the cargo ship Frosta while crossing the river.
The entire crew and over 3/4 of the passengers died in that one when the ship rolled the ferry.
After that, I never stayed in my vehicle once it was parked and always watched the river traffic until reaching the landing on the other side.
