My boy worked and saved this summer and I matched his money to get a 2007 Ford Sport Trac last month. Every few weeks it has trouble going from 2nd to 3rd. He stops and puts it in park and then it works fine. It shifts like butter the rest of the time. What should I do? It would break my heart if this transmission goes out and totals the car. He’s so proud of it. Checking the transmission fluid is a little complicated on this vehicle. But I assume that should be my first step?

I had the same issue with my F150, and I mean the exact thing you’re talking about. It was my transmission manifold. Turns out there was a recall on it, cost me nothing to get fixed. Maybe look into that possibility? My mechanic at the dealership made it sound like a wide recall and my truck is a 2013. Worth a shot

I had a similar issue in my 2007 2500. It would struggle to get from second to third, and putting in park and then shifting again would usually solve the issue - temporarily.

$4500 to rebuild transmission at about 290,000 miles.

I know it is a different vehicle, but that sounds less than ideal.
