IMO all that fluff should not be taken into consideration.....
Put the patty on the bun with what ever condiment you want and that should be the even playing field.
I agree.
NOt that fancy burgers can't be great, but when discussing the best burger, it should just be a patty with cheese and your typical condiments you like (lettuce/tomatoe/pickle/onion/ketchup/mustard/mayo)

That wasn't the question. The question was asking for the best place to go in Baton Rouge to get a burger. You have to judge the burger based on how it is prepared and served at each place.
The question was not "who has the best burger assuming you get it with just meat and then put your own condiments on it?"

I somewhat agree and somewhat disagree.
A fancy burger with a low quality, unseasoned patty isn't better than a diner burger that is cooked right and well seasoned. But, a higher end burger that is executed well with awesome meat, quality cheese, and better toppings absolutely deserves a place in the conversation even if those toppings are fancier.
Example - Juban's serves a fancy burger, but I found the patty to be incredibly bland and overcooked, so I wouldn't throw their name out in this conversation. However, there are certainly places serving burgers on brioche with house made sauces and high quality toppings.. that also have a properly cooked/seasoned patty and deserve a place in the convo.
I like a diner style burger just as much as I like a nice burger, but I've had unseasoned/overcooked burgers just as often in diner/hole in the walls as I have had in nicer places.
Ultimately, both can be bad if not cooked right or unseasoned.
