If this was an adult, perhaps. But since this surgery was performed when the girl was still a minor, it certainly gives legal bearing to a medical malpractice case against the medical professionals and institutions that performed this surgery.

Legal consent for adolescents is a spectrum and the prohibitions and restrictions we place on minors for a myriad of actions are obviously too innumerable to list. Certainly the parents or guardians are the primary agents responsible for allowing this surgery to proceed yet this doesn’t absolve doctors for their part in this butchery and fundamental violation of the Hippocratic Oath.
