I guess IBEW is different when it comes to dues vs benefits. School is paid for is the biggest factor for me. I assume it is different local to local in IBEW. The biggest downs side is dues, which I pay 3% of my check to each week. The kicker is 3 different pensions as well as blue cross healthcare paid for by your contractor. Our union pay scale is a minimum wage, not a top out wage. You can be hired on with a contractor or you can go job to job by just signing the books. No real downside to it as we don’t work residential, if we did that would be a completely different story as most of them are mom and pop shops with who knows what sort of training. There isn’t an aspect of keeping lazy workers employed that I’ve seen. If you suck then they send you home and say don’t come back. You can sign the books again but your reputation is already bad and will be hard to find employment.

You speak the truth. I know several IBEW members and all speak highly of the organization. They don’t take kindly to those who damage the reputation by not doing quality work or having other issues.

As others have mentioned, the OP is obviously a boot-licker who does the bidding of corporate overlord types.

There are no doubt issues that arise with unions sometimes - but to completely down unions because of those issues is just as dumb as saying capitalism is a bad system because some people engage in unethical practices. There needs to be checks and balances.
