Exactly this. I'll drive unless it wastes a ton of time, which it usually doesn't.
Planning a getaway to Asheville. For my dates, the flight with layover is 5 hours 40 minutes. Let's be conservative and say I got to the airport 90 minutes before my flight to park, check luggage, and get through security. Then let's wait another hour after landing to deboard, get my luggage, and deal with the car rental idiots. I can make that drive (with stops) in 11 hours. The extra 3ish hours of travel time that driving takes is worth it to save money and avoid the people in an airport.
