He should. Take away Deion Sanders and I've never seen a better corner.
Along with Joe Burrow, Patrick Peterson was the best LSU player at his position I have ever seen. He dominated every opponent in every game he played at LSU.
A lot of people will say Julio Jones got the better of him in the rematch that LSU won, but Peterson dominated Jones in that game, too. The stats look good for Jones, but if you watch the game, you'll see that several of those completions were quick hitters to Jones, on which Bama expected Jones to bull his way to the sticks, bur Peterson dropped him short and forced the punt. And the only really good play Jones got, besides the quick slant TD, was when Peterson was on the bench with cramps.

He'll get in. Not only has he been around for a long time, but he was considered the best at 2 positions for a period in his career. Best lockdown corner and best return man.
I know sometimes players get overlooked because they weren't the best in the game during their era. Philip Rivers, for example, had to play in the shadow of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers. He is also an 8x Pro Bowler, but he was never really considered in the top 3 at his position during his career, even though he is the 6th leading passer of all time and the 5 ahead of him were all first ballot HOFers. It is questionable whether Rivers will make it in.
If you are the best in the game, or one of the best at your position for a significant period of time and have a long career with multiple Pro Bowls, you are a lock - unless you do something off the field, like Pete Rose or Mark McGuire did.
