The transfer portal might have saved college football

It has given smaller programs an actual chance to compete against the “football factories”
Works both ways. And probably more often that its a star player for a lesser program that goes into the portal and ends up at a powerhouse program where they can make more NIL money and possibly play for a playoff contender than the other way around.

Now mid-level programs get rewarded by having their best players hit the portal to go play for an elite program...after those big schools overlooked them coming out of high school or weren't going to have a chance for playing time as a freshman or sophomore.

If I’m a college kid making millions in college - I’m set for life. Why even try to want to play in the NFL if I’m already filthy rich from NIL money?
There's only a handful of guys with NIL valuations over $1M a year. Even the highest NIL earners aren't so filthy rich that they're just going to give up tens of millions more and just skip the NFL all together.
