This is just a case of lack of information. Just read and brush up on pet health care, cost of labor, materials, etc… you can thank government for pet vaccine mandates. All that you paid checks out as legitimate. You can always go for less than best care. The market trend is people are taking better care of companion animals. There are no signs of this trend slowing in the near future. I have 2 dogs. Budget is 300-350 including 2x a year wellness panels, Chem, cbc, UA, fecal, and vector disease, and yearly dentals. Boarding should come out of travel budget category.
