The real NIL effective date should be July 2..1890. That is when the Sherman Antitrust Act went into effect. NIL exists because the courts found that the NCAA'S rules have been violating that law since they were created. Even if they did say that the ruling only looks forward, the NCAA should not be allowed to apply punishment 2 years later, even if the supposed infraction of the illegal rule took place a day before the court ruling went into effect.
