Any suggestions for purchasing a beginner guitar and beginner lessons?

First decide if you want an acoustic guitar or electric guitar. Electric is easier to play because the strings are thinner.

But you would need an amp as well. My son has the Fender mustang micro ($100) that you plug in to your electric guitar and headphones and it is awesome!

Budget Electrics brands (in alphabetical order only)
Epiphone (gibson)
Fender Squire
Gretsch
PRS - SE

Acoustics - this is where you would need to spend more money to have something playable. Cheap acoustics are pure shite to play on. The best playing cheap acoustic I have ever played was the Fender Tomcat. I think its about $350.

Guitars are like any other item. Buy a nicer one and you can sell it easier if you don't like it. Not many people are going to want to buy a used cheap guitar, which is why they are all at the pawn shops.
