a little bleach and some water soaked for a couple of hours for enameled cast iron. if it needs some extra attention after that, fill it with water and set it on high on your stove and let it boil for a while then try to scrub it again

for cast iron, steel wool or one of those steel link scrubbers by lodge. those plastic scrapers work really well for getting the stuck on grime out
