Really hot outside =/= declaring a state of emergency which is a ruse to get federal funding.

That's besides the point.

The point is that she's a Democrat, and she's taking action because it's really fricking hot outside. That's all it takes for this board to be triggered.

Allowing school boards to recover money spent on extra HVAC upgrades or maintenance and similar expenditures is TYRANNY!!

But even if I were, no I wouldn’t be freaking out because the State released money to state agencies and state subdivisions to deal with heat-related issues.

Shouldn't legislators that represent the people a have say in that how that tax money is spent?

I lived in Flagstaff for a while (Coconino County). No air conditioning. Opened the windows, turned on a fan. It was fine. But, it's nothing like Phoenix. Flagstaff sits around 6000ft altitude. I really love that city. First time I got off the interstate there it just felt like home.

Did the legislators that represent the people allocate this power to the governor? Didn’t the legislators who represent the people already allocate the money involved to the states general or emergency fund consistent with their grant of power to the Governor in emergency conditions?

I’ll bet you every asset that I have that Hobbs didn’t just dream this up. I’m WAAAAAY out on a limb here, but I’m guessing her actions are authorized via past legislation giving her this authority.

Link me evidence of AZ’s legislature raising hell over this egregious executive overstep and I’ll change my mind.

Just don't use the government run cooling centers with the sign over the door that reads: "Klimaanlage Macht Frei".

People go in, but they are never seen coming back out.

States get fed money when they declare disaster. You have to declare disaster before requesting the funds.

My state did the same with Covid. I will never vote for this governor again.
quote:

Once a state declares a state of emergency, it can then ask the federal government for funds.

The reason for the disaster designation is primarily for federal help, as the fed gov is bound by law.

quote:

SEC. 102. As used in this Act—
(1) EMERGENCY.—‘‘Emergency’’ means any occasion or instance for which, in the determination of the President, Federal assistance is needed to supplement State and local efforts
and capabilities to save lives and to protect property and public
health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in any part of the United States.

Now do the reported 800 drug overdoses in Arizona this year.

Oh, that's not on the agenda.

Notice the undeniable explosion in 2020.

2021 is the last year with data.

I see nothing about a disaster declaration, nor a corresponding request to FEMA for disaster funding.

Correct. So where is that here? There also has to be a federal disaster designation in place to receive funds. Am I missing that too?

The one that every state declared to fit inside the federally-declared bullshite during Covid? Yea, I'm sure he did but I don't see how that is relevant here.

Wake me up when the federal designation comes through, I guess.

Go ahead and let me know when the bolded portion happens. Then you will have a point. What you quoted is totally irrelevant to what the State of Arizona calls an "emergency."

Declaring a state of emergency is the step required before obtaining federal funding.

quote:

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego earlier this year asked FEMA to add extreme heat to its list of declared emergencies, a move that would unlock federal funding to protect vulnerable people during the summer.
