Personally, I think it is a moot point and kind of a waste of energy debate. We are most lacking in intensity forecasting, and improvements/advancements there will benefit people a whole lot more than a minuscule improvement in a 5 day cone forecast.

The amount of data that needs to be acquired and then processed for a large improvement in that area will require quantum computing. There will be small incremental steps until then, but for now all they can do id refine current methods for small improvements.

Considering where track forecasts were 20 years ago, I think they've done pretty well.
