Friend is selling his 1999 Gator 6x4 for $2,000. Has less than 900 hours, new battery and runs well. It is gas, no windshield or roof.

Anyone have experience with these models? We will use it for work on the property, hauling stuff, etc. Not getting on roads so don't need the "speed" of some other models.

Thanks in advance.

No speed, won’t go in the mud. Probably just what you want at that price.

I’d put that money towards another newer sxs. I’d almost bet some parts are discontinued on that unit already.

We don't go through the mud unless it is a muddy spot on the property but certainly no mudding off road style.

Thanks

Will check on that. Going by the JD dealership this afternoon to get some parts for my zero turn JD. Good point to consider.

Thank you

Start with the carb parts.

Used one as a work vehicle for a summer job. Me and the other teenager drove through mud and water more than once where we had to lift our feet up because the water was over the floor board.

Mud in Northern MI not Louisiana. Maybe that is the issue. Mud/clay down here is no joke!

My aunt and uncle had one when I was a teen, it was an absolute tank and you could stomp the throttle to the floor and it would just slowly spool up, but nothing better get in the way. We never towed with it but I’m sure it could pull a ton. Sounds just about perfect for what you’d want it for.

I wouldn’t get too discouraged over the age versus parts. Those older machines are overbuilt and just shouldn’t need much other than routine maintenance as long as they aren’t abused. Filters, fluids, and such will have equivalents that can be used. There’s knockoff parts of every major brand available for machines going back to the 80s, and in most cases the OEM will be available if you need it. Carb parts are the most likely to be needed and in most cases interchange between makes or a very wide range of years. I stripped a 1999 Yamaha to the frame and could have replaced every wear part but the decals and plastics with OEM if I’d chosen to. Call a Deere dealer and just ask if they have issues with older gators and they’re likely to tell you it’s no different than sourcing parts for anything else.

Went by JD Dealership this afternoon and they said parts for that particular machine are no problem. Has the Kawasaki engine which is supposed to be reliable. Parts guy there said, at that price, he would but it.

Will pick it up Monday and drive it for a few days to see what we think. Appreciate you pointing that out as it is certainly a consideration.

Thank you,
