College football will hemorrhage viewers in the future if they continue to go away from what made it so popular among its fanbase to begin with.

I disagree completely. I get that way of thinking because change is hard for people to accept, but the 12 team playoff is going to expand the interest of college football fans across the country ten fold. In the current 4 team playoff, by the end of every college football season, there is only 2-4 fan bases that are still engaged...now with a 12 team playoff, there could be anywhere from 12-20 fan bases that are still intently engaged by still having a chance at the playoff. I can't wait for this to be proven true by the ratings for the sport. College football is getting ready to enter its greatest era EVER!!

More fanbases in general are going to stop watching altogether. I think college football will start losing the diehards because of all of the radical changes, and they think they can get enough casual viewership in the Northeast to make up for it. I don't. Nothing will make that region of the country care about college football.

I'm sure the ratings for a new superleague would be great for a year or two until the newness wears off, and then college football fans will want their rivalry games back that are being taken away. The ratings for the AAF fell off a cliff after their first week because the novelty wore off.

I would MUCH rather see Georgia play Georgia Tech and South Carolina every year than Penn State and Texas, for example. No history there. No rivalry. It would be just another date on the calendar.

The ratings will be great but I don't think that proves the sport is better. TV execs don't care about that, nor should they, but higher ratings doesn't mean a better product. It just means casual sports fans would rather watch Ohio St./Oregon than Ohio St./Purdue.

A lot of people on this site are diehards who tailgate, attend, travel, etc. This new era won't be better for them.
