We have a forested lot of several acres that has a number of upright dead pine trees. Probably pine beetles. I have no idea how long they've been dead, but we've been here 4 years and they were dead when we moved in.
But, judging by some of the deterioration, etc. and some have toppled over into the woods. I'd imagine most of them died not long before we moved in. So I'd say I have some dead pine trees that have been dead and upright 6 years or so.

I have one in my yard that's deader than hell. Chunks of it keep falling off, zero bark left on it. I go outside and watch it every time a storm rolls through.
