They aren't as nice as they were in the 80 and 90s crowd wise for sure. But you can still get away from people if you want. Yellowstone is HUGE.

Get up in Lamar Valley etc and it's better. We went 2 years ago and the only place it felt like an amusement park was at old faithful and some of the more popular geyser basins. And that was right after things were opening up due to covid and were more crowded.

Smokies is the same. Cades cove and laurel falls are nuts, but other areas aren't bad at all.
