Third dentist gave me a bunch of Advil when it first came out. Prescription strength was 800 mg. It worked. It was the only thing that worked.

I found that to be true for me as well. It’s was either on TD or another site were a dentist recommended 800 mg of Advil (ibuprofen) (4, 200 mg OTC) every 6 hours, and 1000 mg of acetaminophen=Tylenol (2, 500 mg OTC tablets), 3 hours after taking the 800 mg of ibuprofen, until one could see the dentist. Made the pain “manageable” as opposed to “intolerable”.

Made mine recede, but it was every 4 hours. Stuff is hard on the stomach, but it is an anti-inflammatory. I had to take it for weeks since I was moving back to NYC from Boston and the root canal specialist didn't want to do half the job.

Two dentists couldn't find what tooth it was, but gave me codeine and then Percocet which hardly blunted the pain. The specialist took a little tube of ice and put it on my teeth in the area one at a time until I jumped out of my skin.

Yeah, the Advil worked.
