Street tacos were literally sold on the street. They would set up little cooking stations and would normally sell them really cheap. The tortilla was much smaller and was easier to hold and walk around. You pretty much only had the choice of pick/no pico and red or green sauce.

Restaurants jumped on the fad and sell them indoors now, and there are tons of variations and extras. They still call them “street tacos” because that’s the style they are made.

This, they are all over California and other places. There is a reason they are called that. If you think a taco bell taco is the same as a street taco, then I wouldn't start a thread questioning the nomenclature.
