Brighton is very affordable and a really nice suburb in which to raise a family. There's not going to be much for a single guy to do there. Ann Arbor would be better for that. Also, Detroit is a hole, but you could live in Brighton for years and not know Detroit existed. It's really not that close.
All that being said, Florida is the clear choice. Michigan is a dying state. Don't get stuck here.
