My beef with Crowton.........

I've been upset with Crowton for not adapting his O to help Lee for a while now.
Yesterday, the CBS sideline reporter talked after Lee's pick about an interview she did with Crowton.
She said after his INTs Lee always walks over to the phone to go and talk to Crowton and doesn't talk to anyone on the sideline. She asked if he thought that with a young QB it might help having his OC on the sideline to talk to face to face and at least have someone to sit with him instead of sitting by himself on the phone.
Crowton responded that he wasn't "comfortable" on the sideline.
Well, um, excuse me Coach, but Lee hadn't looked very "comfortable" with anything you've been calling, but he went out there and tried his best.
Crowton's refusal to change any part of his approach I think crippled Lee, Hatch, AND Jefferson's development.
He gets paid a lot of money to help his players succeed, and I don't care how "uncomfortable" it makes him, but he should have at least tried calling a game or a half from the sideline. Lee definitely looked like he needed an ally on the sideline and that should have been his OC. Then JJ and Hatch could have listened in on their talks and learned as well.
I think that quote was a perfect example of how he failed the entire offense this year, refusing to do anything out of his comfort zone, including play calling.
He's great when he has his type of players, but this year he didn't and he failed to adapt.
He needs to improve just as much as our DCs do as far as I'm concerned.

Nothing can help this kid. He just gets too anxious and does not play with poise. You can't coach that. He has a good arm but it will be on him to make better decisions.

Yep. Every single good player walked out onto the field for the very first time with ice water in their veins. Coaching is irrelevant.

then you're mad at les
crowtons offense suits lee, and lee has played well running it
miles' offense has given lee problems, esp if we can't effectively run up the middle out of the i-form

Voodoo, my thoughts exactly. I feel we may need to look for both a new DC and OC. Crowton has made some of the worst calls I've seen. One sign of a good coach is the ability to adapt to your players. Our offense looks just as lost as our defense so he needs to share the blame.
I know all about our QB situation; I'm just asking does Crowton know about it and why hasn't he adjusted his play calling?

What do you mean Slow? Our offensive scheme looks almost the same as last year IMO.
And that was a totally different approach from Miles' first two years with Jimbo.
I gave Crowton the credit for our O last year, so I'm not gonna flip and blame Miles now.
Obviously both deserve credit and blame, but the O is Crowton's IMO.

I agree that our play calling has been bad and GC hasn't adapted.
But I definitely don't think he should be fired. He is great when he has his players, and things will be better next year. I have faith that he'll figure out how to call plays that our players can execute. I just think he's been stubborn this year.

Maybe Crowton should be on the sidelines helping Lee since he is a Freshman. But the problem with Crowton is that his offense has no basic scheme whatsoever. He has no consistency in calling plays, and each game is like a new season. If the "Wild Tiger" is so freakin great that we feel like running it in overtime vs. Bama, then why the hell didn't we run it against Ole Miss. Where the hell has the reverse been all year that Crowton decided to unveil in the second to last game of the year. I don't know, I realize I'm just ranting, but I gotta let it out eventually.

not true
the "basic scheme" is 4-5 wide, spread football
think texas tech. THAT is crowton's offense

That isn't what we ran last year. Do you credit Miles for coming up with our O scheme last year?

it's Crowton's offense with the shitty Miles offense mixed in.

we ran a good bit of it

crowton kept something like 1/3 of jimbo's playbook and miles made him run a good bit of i-form for our talent
we have started running more and more of miles offense this year, even though lee does well in the spread
last year we rotated RBs and ran a lot of outside runs with keiland and option plays. we don't this year. we're almost exclusively i-form, off guard running plays now. that's why our offense has gone to shite
other than the non-creative miles running game, crowton doesn't always transition from miles' offense to his offense well. he's out of rhythm b/c he's not really calling HIS offense

our play call pattern seems to be the way it is because I think the coaches still think we have a stout defense. That is one of the only things i can come up with.
SAfe play calls, thinking let our D get on the field and win field postiion.
But our D isnt good enough to do that

So basically everything that is good is Crowton's and everything that is bad in Miles'. Gotcha. Thanks for the analysis.

i think it's pretty obvious that miles has a hand in the offense. crowton has ran a spread everywhere else he's been in his career, even the NFL. now suddenly he's running a lot of i-form at LSU

Yeah but Slow our offense goes a lot deeper than just the formations. Its the plays that we run out of those formations. The passing routes are typical Crowton slants and crosses over the middle. That's what Lee has struggled with, no matter what formation we run them out of.

Right but why is that Miles' offense? We ran option and outside last year because we had two quarterbacks who were great running it. We've continued to run it this year, though, not as much, even though Lee is absolutely terrible at it. Are you saying the option is Miles offense? Because I'm pretty sure that's all Crowton.

Agreed. But why do you seem to think Lee is so much better running a true 4-5 receiver spread? We haven't run that much at all, so what are you basing that on? Lee actually seems to be much more of a pure pro style QB, where you can max protect and let his receivers work outside the hashes to use his arm strength.
He'd also seem a better fit for a true shotgun O, which Crowton almost never runs, using the pistol instead. That is a pure Crowton formation that isn't best suited to Lee.

My beef with Crowton...
Poor play calling. Adjust your play calling to your players. People have strengths that should be catered to. Lee to Scott options tend to be pretty frustrating. Also, I-form up the gut for 0-1 yards a dozen times per game is frustrating. Can't we pitch it out to KW for a change?
On a positive note, I saw a pass thrown from the I-form last night. That was a pleasant surprise, maybe opposing D's won't know we're going up the middle every time we line up in the I now.
