I remember people talking about recruits, I just don't recall any service ranking the teams based or even real the athletes. Rivals was the first recruiting rankings org that I know of and they were founded in 1998.

The Godfather of recruiting was Joe Terranova, Max Emfinger was more of a local guy. Allan Wallace was another. There were a number in the recruiting phase. I have a box with a number from years back. Mel Kiper,Jr’s. first magazine. Lindy’s had a recruiting book. Years ago there was a guy out of Nashville, Tn. he too did recruiting.
Most found out they could make a few dollars.

I’ll just try an go by memory.

David Butler, S.La. Converted to a DB at LSU!

Jay Johnson, out of Tx. At one time he led the SEC in YPC, for a Freshman.

Robert Toomer, Ga. He’s a high school coach.

Artie Moore, out of Ms. Transferred to a SWAC.

Robert Davis out of Alabama.

In that same class Eddie Kennison, Dave LaFleur, Gabe Northern, Ben Bordelon and Jamie Howard. They had a few more, many you might not remember.
